Some .ng extensions are restricted (closed zones). NiRA will only register them after eligibility documents are checked. You cannot add these names to the cart for instant checkout.
Common restricted extensions:
- .edu.ng — accredited tertiary institutions
- .sch.ng — primary and secondary schools
- .gov.ng — government bodies and agencies
- .net.ng — ISP / telecom infrastructure providers
- .mil.ng — military organizations
Step 1 — Search for the domain
- Open Domain Search.
- Enter the name you want and choose the restricted extension (for example
.sch.ng). - If the name is free, you will see Apply with documents instead of Add to Cart.
Step 2 — Start the application
- Click Apply with documents (or go to /domains/apply and enter the full domain).
- Sign in to your client account if you are not already logged in.
- Read the eligibility hint for that extension so you know which documents to prepare.
Step 3 — Fill in the form and upload documents
- Choose the registration term (years).
- Enter your organization / institution name.
- Confirm the contact name, email, and phone.
- Add any notes that help our team verify eligibility.
- Upload supporting documents (PDF or images, up to 8MB each). Typical examples:
- .edu.ng — NUC / NBTE / NCCE approval and an authorization letter on letterhead
- .sch.ng — Ministry of Education approval or school registration papers
- .gov.ng — official authorization letter with the correct government-tier clearance
- Click Submit for review.
Step 4 — Track your request
- Open Client Area → Restricted requests.
- Open the request to see status, uploaded files, and any note from our team.
- If status is Needs documents, upload the extra files from that page and save.
Step 5 — Pay after approval
- When we approve the request, you receive an email and an invoice.
- Pay the invoice from your client area (or the link in the email).
- After payment, we register the domain at the registry and it appears under My Domains.
What happens next?
- Pending — we are reviewing your documents.
- Needs documents — reply on the request page with the files we asked for.
- Approved — pay the invoice to complete registration.
- Rejected — the name could not be approved; the request page shows the reason.
